Robo-SLEEPER cars… absolutely!
Volvo sees the multifunctional, connected self-driving car as a viable alternative for trips of about 186 miles, opening new business opportunities for the automaker, which wants autonomous vehicles to account for a third of its global sales by 2025.
I say trips up to 500 miles are in danger. Imagine sleeping– horizontally and comfortably– the entire trip from New York to Virginia, or Austin to New Orleans. Normally, these trips are either entire day drives– taxing and stressful; or they are short flights– expensive and annoying. The future will be much simpler: door-to-door pick up and drop off in the middle of the night while you sleep. Moreover, this driverless nighttime travel will be exceedingly cheap, because of the surplus of unused robocars that will occur at night.
